It's Monday again already?? It seriously was JUST Monday like yesterday! Where does the time go? Maybe I really do just wake up too late in the day. When I was a kid going to school Monday through Friday, 8am - 4pm, sometimes staying after school for practice, a week seemed like eternity! I really gotta start filling up my time with more concrete things to do rather than just waif the week away (even though I absolutely love waifing). But I haaaate waking up early in the mornings! Oh the balance of life. A constant scale tipping back and forth until we finally find the perfect equilibrium...and usually, we never really do. It's really hard for me to find balance in anything I do really. I ALWAYS want more than one thing at once. Even with my blog, I've been told that I go on tangents within tangents in one post. I really do try to stay on topic most of the time, it's just that everything is so darn connected! Even the previous statement about the "balance of life" tipping back and forth. Imagine an actual scale that tips back and forth. The constant motion of the swinging can range from a 0 degree flat line, to a 90 degree angle. The motion of a scale constantly tipping back and forth between 0 and 90 degrees equals what? A circle!
Lion King said it best, circle of life! (Which is also the quote I give vegans when I explain why I eat meat! Lion King is actually full of great quotes if you ask me.) It is all just one big circle. Everything is everything (a Lauryn Hill quote!) But seriously people, have you ever been discussing one thing, and soon you are talking about something else, that seems so far off from the original topic? That's because a lot of seemingly disconnected subjects are infact interconnected. What goes around in discussion will surely come back around to tie in and make sense. Life is just like that, a flow, a circle. Which is also my favorite shape! (And also the hardest shape to draw freehand...)
Using words and phrases to help intertwine conversations is why I love figures of speech so much. They help us realize how much everything is connected. Figures of speech may have seemed stupid and pointless when we were in English class, (Why does this darn language give us so much grief?) but actually I love them! I'm sure you've all noticed that I use them often in my titles. I think they can really help us learn to be connected with things that we never thought to be connected to. We are not just individuals floating amongst other individual and separate things ya know. It may be hard to grasp that concept for some, and that is why problems of selfishness, greed, inequality, and injustices arise...among many others ofcourse. Puns (even though I dislike the actual word "pun") are kind of an awesome figure of speech. They are usually very funny and light hearted, but still shows a sort of connection! That's why the English language, although annoying grammatically at times, is very fun to manipulate when writing and speaking. Writing is fun people! That's why I do it all the dang time. I love trying to document everything going on in my crazy head. No matter how strange it may seem at first, writing it down seems to make sense for perhaps another part of my life that I've been trying to figure out. Ever notice how in movies when someone discovers a crazy person's notebook or journals, the writing can be kind of circular instead of linear? Maybe writing in a circle helps to make more sense of things. I see nothing wrong with it! (Or maybe that's just because I'm one of the crazy people with a notebook...meh)
Another major thing that really helps to understand the connections of life is dreaming. Everybody does it. Some people are more conscious of their dreams, some people remember more, some less. One thing about dreams is that we always try to analyze them upon awakening. "What did that dream MEAN??" Do they even mean anything at all? I like to think of dreams as the visualizations of our subconscious thoughts. Our minds work in mysterious ways to try and make sense of the things we see and think about. The mind tries to find the connections for us.
Anywho peeps, I really do try to keep focused on one thing, but maybe my problem is that I only see one big connection so I want to just do it all, talk about it all, be it all! What sort of sparked this topic today is actually something kind of strange. Saturday night, the Rocky Horror picture show came on the tv where I was. I absolutely LOVE that movie! I had never seen it in it's entirety though (or sober), but actually looking at the movie for what it was... it's simply... genius! I've always been very captivated by musicals, but this one is just so much more than a musical. It seems, at surface glance, to be a random nonsensical collection of weird sexual under(and over)tones. Looking past all of that, it has an underlying theme of reality, fantasy, and the thin line between the two. Trying not to give spoiler alerts, so go see the movie if you haven't already! This movie has everything from great music, great visuals, amazing fashion and set design, great acting, and awesome writing... why hasn't this movie won more awards?? It completely embodies all aspects of raw avant garde creativity.
I want to do something like that. To create a project of sorts expanding across all realms of ingenuity...connecting everything that I can think of in such a way that everyone will (sort of) understand. Or atleast think deeper. It begins with the writing! I want to be that backward poet that writes inverse...
p.s. I can't decide wether I'd want to be Magenta or Columbia if I were auditioning for a Rocky Horror picture stage play. Who would you be?
P.p.s. Some of my notebooks I carry around with me in case I get inspired on a whim...
p.p.p.s. "Don't dream it, be it!"
