Hello everyone! What a lovely Monday it is. Sun is shining, birds are chirping ( At least I assume they are chirping. This air conditioner is too loud...first world problems)! Well... it seems like a beautiful day on the outside, but to some people a beautiful day can mean ugly allergies, sunburns, and heat stroke! The dawn of the selfie era has contributed greatly to society's illusion of beautiful outward appearances vs. the inside. We are eager to spend all of this time, money, and effort to make ourselves look good on the outside, but often neglect the inside, just because it is easily hidden. Don't neglect yourself people. We only have one body for our entire lives, and most of the important stuff is on the inside!
As most of you may have read from my last blog, I recently got health coverage on August 1st! I know, I know, don't even get me STARTED on the fallacies of the modern day American health care industry (there have been some suggestions that I should start a "Tangent Tuesdays" blog for my continuation rants so my Monday Blogs won't be so long and all over the place... maybe!). The health insurance I have however, is provided by NY medicaid, since I don't have any solid income. I'm not directly giving money to these bozos to treat my natural born illnesses! In case you haven't figured out by now, I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. We are a doctor's worse nightmare! I literally think there are so many things wrong with me, and if I had all the resources at my disposal, I would really love to investigate every single one of those things. I will however start with the most prevalent.
I don't really talk about my health issues that much in my blog. I am definitely better off than some people, but I will say that I am not the healthiest I could be. Ever since I moved to New York, I have had this weird mucus cough thing going on. You would only know this about me if you've spent multiple days in a row in my presence. I do a very good job of hiding this flaw when I'm out in public. It is however, always uncomfortable in my throat. This past week, it got kind of bad. I had a very VERY dry consistent cough that wouldn't go away. Trying to sleep was the worst. Waking up was equally as miserable. I use to always just attribute it to allergies...but then again, how do I even know THAT? I haven't been to an actual doctor in YEARS (minus a frantic trip to the ER once in 2011 that cost me about $1200 -___-). Everything that I have diagnosed myself with is from random research on Webmd (A hypochondriac's bible...I even had the app on my phone for a while)! In addition to my persistent nose and throat issues, I have also had a few painful teeth issues. I went to an emergency dentist in 2012 or 2013 for some excruciating tooth pains. They said I needed my wisdom teeth out or something, so I said ok, let's get em outta there right? This fool tells me it'll be about $200 per tooth, and it would be more depending on my level of anesthetic -___-. I took the drugs and got outta there fast. I still have ALL of my wisdom teeth, which do hurt from time to time, but I just drug myself up with OTCs and keep in pushin'. Which I know is probably terrible! On top of all of this, I really need to get my glasses back. I lost them a long time ago somewhere, and haven't been able to afford anymore since (glasses are the most expensive of all)! Good thing I'm not totally blind without glasses, I just need them when staring at things for a long time. Point is, I am very excited to be getting some MUCH needed health attention!
THANKFULLY I don't have any major conditions that I have to deal with, just a bunch of minor ones with mostly mild discomfort. I can't imagine what it must be like for people with worse off sickness. I really do have to start taking better care of myself though. It truly is an over looked aspect of life, but probably the most important! It is definitely much easier and more gratifying to buy a bunch of makeup as oppose to saving up for a pair of glasses, but is that really how I should be living? Imagine putting a fresh coat of paint on an old beat up car... sure it will look nice from the outside, but that ain't gonna make it run any smoother! It'll just be looking nice and sitting in the darn driveway all day. Wouldn't you much rather have something that works? Before we put that fresh coat of paint on, we need to get that baby a tune up. Going to the physicians, dentists, OBGYNs, ENTs, eye doctors, or anybody else, can DEFINITELY be exponentially expensive, but there are also things we can do to avoid getting unhealthy in the first place. Eating right and being active are probably the 2 most practical things. Also, wash your hands! It's a dirty world. Gotta start somewhere! Don't let your only body deteriorate right in front of your eyes. There are plenty of environmental and societal things trying to harm us, let's not harm ourselves.
p.s. I really do need another entire blog to dedicate to the health care system... to much to say! But just go watch Sicko if you have some time.
p.p.s. What the heck were people doing back in biblical times when they lived to be thousands of years old? They didn't have all this doctor/hospital nonsense back then. We can't even make it to a smooth 100 without a million things going wrong, smh.
p.p.s. Oh! And don't forget to drink lots and lots of WATER!
