You know what everybody, just because I do put out a brand spanking new (why do people always say brand SPANKING new? That seems like it would hurt) blog post each and every Monday like clockwork, does NOT mean that I always know what to write about. Today for instance, I probably have written and erased like 5 different subjects. Sometimes I have the inevitable and eternally frustrating “writer’s block”. Ahhhh! Ya know, writing is something that we ALL do each and everyday that often gets taken for granted. Do we even stop to think about the things we write? Be they online, or on paper... a simple note even. It is truly a dying art form! Yes art! When you think of the word “artist”, what comes to mind? Usually a painter/ drawer, or a music artist. But the underdog artists are defiantly the writers of the world.
As I scroll through the internet seeking inspiration, I see a lot of jumbled together words with (at times) misleading accompanying pictures, in a wide array of topics...which are ofter referred to as “articles”. We’ve all shared an interesting article at one time or another am I right? Something in the words strikes a chord with us, be it argumentative or agreeing. The articles and blogs of today are usually filled with lots and lots of opinions, with a fact sprinkled in every now and then. Which is fine I suppose, because that’s mostly what THIS blog is! We as people are if not anything else, opinionated, and sometimes it’s hard to determine what exactly in people’s writings are opinions versus the facts. I’ve come to realize that opinions are what often divide us. We pick a side and stick to it, and stick with the people ON that side. When you think of it, this world is based on a bunch of opinions! What is fact anymore? Something that can be proven? Sure, but who is doing the proving? This brings everything into question. Sometimes my mind goes on crazy tangents (usually when I have writer’s block), and instead of thinking about one thing or one particular subject, I think about the grander scheme of everything in LIFE. 0 - 100. REAL quick. (I can’t believe that’s the first time I’ve ever used that phrase in any of my blogs... I say it all the time! )
Writing is not a simple thing to do. Even with it’s complexity, it’s hard to gain the proper momentum in this society to bring the attention of skilled writers to the forefront. It's usually not perceived as a glamorous occupation. I know from experience that it is VERY hard to make a living from writing alone. You can’t WRITE on the subway for money... nobody is paying for that! You can’t WRITE at parties as a form of entertainment... everyone would fall asleep! You usually can’t globally sell your small form writings (like a blog) on “blogtunes” for 99 cents. You can’t binge read a blog series on “blogflix” for a monthly subscription. I think you get my drift.
So what is it that exactly drives me to keep writing all the darn time? I like to do it! It’s always fun and challenging to try and convey and simplify all of the random nonsense that goes on in my brain in an understandable way. VERY challenging. I think I’m getting better at it too. That’s why I have to keep doing it... even when I have nothing to talk about! If you don’t exercise and eat right, you’ll probably gain weight. Same with your brain! If you don’t use the skills you have OFTEN and challenge yourself, the brain will gain weight! Well, maybe not gain weight, but it won’t work anymore! Well, maybe it’ll still work, but it’ll get useless! You know what I mean people. Keep using your skills. Even if you are having a sort of “off” day, and you may think what your doing sucks at the moment, keep doing it. Some of my best ideas come from sucky random ramblings! Who knows, someone could see it and it’d make all the difference in their day. Who cares if millions of people don’t read my blog. The RIGHT people read it. And that is what keeps me going! Consistency is key. Especially in cake. I want cake. Cheesecake. Brownie cheesecake. Ok bye.
p.s. I remember a while ago, I was at some family’s house for dinner. The mom was talking about the subjects her daughter ( I think the daughter was about 5 or 6) was taking in school. There were ofcourse the usual subjects; math, science, English, but the mom was pretty irate at the fact that the school didn’t teach cursive handwriting. I thought about it like, yeah, whatever happened to cursive?? I do remember learning about it in school, and making those funny swoopey letters all connect, but then after awhile, we learned computers, and EVERYTHING had to be typed out. How are they just gonna switch it up like that??
P.p.s. Wouldn’t that be so BOSS if there were a blogtunes of blogflix??
