I don't really shop for new clothing all that much, but when I do, I notice that the sizes are as follows; xxs, xs, s, m, l, xl, xxl, xxxl. There is only one medium! Why is that? Why is being in the middle such a terrible thing? The world is full of extremes in every regard. Me personally, I'm just trying to find an extra (happy) medium.
As you can probably tell by now, this blog today will be all about balance. Back tracking on my life a little bit, I will tell you about a person I once knew. When I first met this person, among other personality traits, he proclaimed very profoundly that he was an atheist. That's right people, he believed in nothing. He thought that he made his own destiny and yadda yadda. Also, I do remember him saying that he had never ever smoked any miscellaneous paraphernalia before, and that anyone who did was stupid and wasting their life being lazy. Now let's fast forward a few years to after I moved out east. This guy is now a devote Christian, as well as an avid weed smoker. I do understand that in life, our viewpoints may change the more and more we learn, however, going polar opposite can seem very uprooting. Why is it so bad to want to be in the middle? Why can't things just be taken in moderation on each end? Do we have to jump to the complete other side of things just because one way isn't working out?
I fully acknowledge that I am a supreme example of life wishy washy-ness. I'm a wayward hippie child for cryin' out loud! As I live life, I do learn new things that may make me want to change the way I live a bit, but I try not to be such an extremist. Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful to believe in something whole heartedly. Stick to your guns if you have certain morals or values, ya know! But what I have come to find is that within these radical and extreme beliefs, all other beliefs seem to be shunned. Nobody likes to think about the other side of things. We are all so busy trying to defend; listening only so we can speak. We should be listening to understand.
This topic also makes me think about how there was a skinny epidemic a while ago, and now there is the big girl revolution going on. Personally, I have been the same darn weight all my life, but I also don't see a problem with being different sizes. Why then, must we put one side down though in order for the other to thrive? Why does your anaconda want nothing to do with my buns?? Why can't we live in a society where skinny is good AND big is good?? I also see a lot of pro dark skin as well as pro light skin these days. Dark skin IS very amazing, yes, but I saw something the other day on Instagram...
Yes, dark skin is BEAUTIFUL, but so is lighter skin! Pale skin is also beautiful! Why does one have to be lesser than other in order for one to thrive? I don't want to have to choose between skinny or big, or black or white, or anything really. Where is the middle ground!? I am trying to learn to appreciate how everything comes together somewhere in the middle. I just want the best of both worlds...
Once the world figures out a way to live in a perfectly balanced harmony, we'd all do a lot better! But maybe my fantasy world is merely wishful thinking. Balance can never be perfect. It's a constant effort. When you go to the doctor and he puts you on the scale, that thing is always moving around! Even when he finally calls out your weight! The little needle thing is never COMPLETELY still. I'm just saying.
My dream size, extra medium, is probably never going to be a realistic measurement to the rest of the world. It's still a cool concept to think about! We have to find our own personal balance in life, so don't take my word for it! If you do find yourself to be on more of the extreme end of things, go for it, but don't shun the other side of things. Listen to their viewpoints! I suppose I can do a better job of listening to the viewpoints I'm totally against too. Vegans, I'm talking about YOU! I'm sure you aren't all freaks.
p.s. I'm probably a medium in every aspect of my life (I even try to be ambidextrous). It all began with the often confusing in-between shade of my skin! When you aren't white, but don't have a lot of melanin, where do you fit in?
p.p.s. Whoa! I just realized that I'm also technically a middle child!
p.p.p.s. I've never seen the show "Medium", but it looks like it sucks.
